Power family of Rock Street, Tralee
« on: Monday 11 June 18 12:22 BST (UK) »
I'm researching part of the Power family who lived in Rock Street, Tralee in the mid to late 1800's.  It appears that some of the men were Pig buyers or cattle dealers.  There is a marriage of a Patrick Power to a Mary Moriarty in 1897.  Patrick's father is John & I can't quite make out John's wife's maiden name on Patrick's birth records.

I'm looking for any information on Patrick & Mary's children:  John, Kate, Margaret, Patrick (Deceased), Michael, Mary, Hannah, Ellen & Patrick (may also be known as Jerimiah)

These children were born between 1897 & 1910.  The first Patrick died as an infant & the second Patrick who may have been later called Jerimiah also possibly died as an infant.

I also have some details for Michael which need to be confirmed by someone closer to this family.

Any assistance with this family's origins or any connection living would be appreciated.  I understand that the living cannot be readily discussed so please respond with those details privately.

I canít see the family in 1901 but Margaretís birth certificate shows them in Brogue Lane in 1900

https://civilrecords.irishgenealogy.ie/churchrecords/images/birth_returns/births_1900/01980/1762997.pdf

And here they are in 1901

Patrickís death in 1909 aged 44 yrs

I assume you probably have those censuses and birth records?

Are you now looking for what happened to them?

Which child/children have you followed up with marriages and deaths?

You mention Michael - when was he born?

He is not included in 1901 census and 1911 census with his family and 1911 shows Mary as having had 9 children with one death.

Added

Birth of Michael 1902

Is this him?

Is this Johnís birth that you refer to? **should read Patrick
https://civilrecords.irishgenealogy.ie/churchrecords/images/birth_returns/births_1866/03536/2301675.pdf

I think the motherís name is Mulchinock or a variation of that name. There are several births to this couple with various spellings.
There is a marriage but it is 1841 - February 17th so a long time before the 1866 birth.

There are a few John and Patrick Powers who are pig dealers or similar. :-\

I hope all this is the right family and helps a bit  :)

Thanks Heywood for all that info & yes, you were correct in that I have a lot of it.

The surname I couldn't read was Patrick Powers' mother.  He was born in either  1866 or 1871.  I have his father as John.

This will then enable me to track John & ? marriage to find his siblings as this family looks to have a lot of members all living in & around Rock Street, Tralee.

As for Michael - I have record of his birth in 1902 &  marriage in 1925 (providing I have the correct people)  and I wanted to clarify their children - I have a potential of 4 children with one dying in 1947.  I can private message details if need be.

Sorry, I messed up the post re birth and marriage and have amended it now.
It should have read Patrick not John.
Here is info again

Patrick Power born 1866
https://civilrecords.irishgenealogy.ie/churchrecords/images/birth_returns/births_1866/03536/2301675.pdf

I think mother is Catherine Mulchinock or variant.
I gave a link to the 1841 marriage.

Here is his baptism - number 1798
https://registers.nli.ie/registers/vtls000634363#page/112/mode/1up

As I said, there are several baptisms for this coupleís children.

What bothers me is the two Patrick Powers in Tralee when tracing parents.

Even though ages donít match, I think yours is always the younger man and of course he dies in 1909.

I see the 1925 Wexford marriage and it looks to be the right Michael Joseph. John J Power is the witness.

There is a published tree showing 4 children to this couple.
Indexes show 2 births in 1928 -same reference number so twins if they are the same parents (family first names)
One birth in 1930 looks to be a family name also.
There is a mention of a child born 1943 also.

As these are not online yet, you would need to purchase certificates to make certain.

I have not mentioned names as you seem to want to keep these private.
