OOOOOO

I think I have something here...

a  Mary Haywood married a Benjamin Carter / Jabez Atkins in 1852.

in 1853  a Benjamin Carter dies of around the same age as Mary and his will is very interesting cos his wife is mary... so now I have to find his marriage cert and or the 1861 with a mary carter..

xin  fingers crossed.

Right

so this is the fun of this game

This has lead me back to Church Lawford and a Mary Barret  born in 1790

this Mary Barret could well be mine that married Henry Haywood and eventually married Benjamin Carter and then died in 1873...

The reason I went on to this one is there is a record of a Mary Carter Widow on the 1871 BARWELL born in Church Lawford.

Now to prove any of this I need the 2nd marriage of Benjamin Carter...

Ha ha ha.. tangled webs again or bent branches leading me where???

Ok --- I have sent for the marriage Cert of Benjamin Carter and Mary Haywood... its a 'clutching at straws' thing
but there you go... I cannot find any other positives to follow.

I know she was a charwoman as Mary Haywood.  I know she lived in Church street which is close to Mill St.  where Benjamin (and her son Thomas?) lived .

I know Benjamin was married and reasonably well off in 1851 his will in 1853 states his wife is Mary.

So between 1851 and 1853.. his Wife Frances dies .. he marries again and then dies...

uhm.....

then the only Mary Haywood I can find that marries him is mine~!!!

maybe that is incorrect...

I cannot find her in anyway shape or form in 1861.

So she probably has died in 1851 and I just didnt find it.

complicated or wot!?!?

I explained it all to myself ... carefully...

before sending for the cert  ::) ::) ::)

I found a 1871 with a possibly correct Mary Carter in Barwell and widowed and of the right age ---

but born in CHURCH LAWFORD  as stated in previous post.

going now and twiddling my thumbs till the cert arrives....

Well

that cert is not helpful.

The Mary Haywood that married Benjamin Carter is a Widow YES  of full age Yes and lives in Barwell Yes.

But her fathers name is .... unknown to me... Stephen Barnicliffe. or Barrowcliffe or maybe even Baracliffe.

So now to find HIM if indeed he did exist and attach him to his daughter Mary and then discount Benjamin Carters connection to my Mary Haywood.

Then start again for a death or whatever of Mary Haywood after 1851  - oh ooops  dear

Clearly you need to investigate further, so case not closed however people identified their 'father' as who they wanted or what suited them at that time...... it wasn't checked.

My great grandfather married twice, each marriage cert has a different 'fathers' name, neither were his father, both 'father figures' one being his grandfather the other being his uncle yet his real father was alive for both weddings and he certainly knew who his real father was...so it suited him to not acknowledge his real dad.

Thanks for that Iluleah they must have a reason for their little white lies.

I have that previously with my Charles annis definitely telling fibs about his father.. naughty... :) :)

it is confusing.. everything is so right apart from this Invisible Stephen.. cannot find him.. but still on the case

:)

There is a Barracliffe family living in Normanton( on Soar) looks like they go back some time there that is just north of Loughboro' so not that far from Barwell

Yes it took me years to work out why he lied, why he changed his name...I have my own theory based on facts and information I found although my theory doesn't match records
