British army uniforms C19th - general question
« on: Monday 11 June 18 18:41 BST (UK) »
Does anyone know of an online site which has anything like a database to search for army uniforms by style?

Such as:
uniform colour
colour of collar/cuffs/facings
number of buttons/frogs
tartan design
and so on.

We get several "can you identify this uniform" requests - and so often the man in the photograph has no headgear, so no identifiable regiment badge.

My guess is that there isn't a comprehensive list of militia uniforms, but anything that identifies or rules out regular army would be very useful.

I note that on other more specialised sites where seasoned experts in this field are to be found, sources are usually identified as coming from this or that reference book.  I haven't seen any site such as you describe being referred to anywhere.

It is with great difficulty I share with you that in the early hours of 07 August 2021, Maximilian passed away unexpectedly but peacefully.

With deep sadness,

Many thanks for your reply.  I knew it was a long-shot, but it was worth asking!
