Gaws of Co Tyrone
« on: Monday 11 June 18 21:11 BST (UK) »
I ask for some assistance in my search.
I am looking for info on Grandmother***Catherine Gaw circa 1860 County Tyrone Northern Ireland.

1911  Irish Census, Catherine(Kate) lists birthplace as Co Tyrone.  I believe  that i will not find info on her birth as it was before registration.  How do i find info on her family? I  have  parents listed as Adam Gaw and Eliza Reid.  Adam's death circa 1894 Belfast N.I.. i have some info on Catherine's brother and 2 sisters.  Adam's father listed as John Gaw on marriage index.

I would like  to isolate John Gaw and his line.

any insight or direction would be appreciated

Which presumably means married in Church of Ireland?

Is this your Catherine? if so, husband was likely Presbyterian-

1901 census gives her as born Belfast-

Aghadowey,

I have overlooked that info on the 1901 Census.
I shall begin from that point in my search for the Gaws.

Do you have a comment why the info is different on those census?

Catherine probably wasn't sure where she was born if they moved around a lot.  Her parents married in Lisburn in 1852 and the civil births from 1864:

1864  Emily - Dungannon, Tyrone  (registered by grandmother Eliza REID)
1866 Grace - Belfast, Antrim (registered by Margaret MULHOLLAND who gives mother's maiden surname as FLETCHER)
1868  Mary - Lurgan, Armagh and Down  (registered by Anna Maria GAW)
1870  Joseph - Lurgan, Armagh and Down (registered by mother)
1872  Sarah Jane (GOUGH) died 1873 - Belfast, Antrim
1873  Sarah Jane - Belfast, Antrim (registered 1874 by father)
1876  James - Belfast, Antrim  (registered by Annie GAW)

Adam's age at 57 in 1894 is probably not correct and he was more likely older than that.

Eliza was said to be 74 in 1911.

There is a list here of Church of Ireland registers including those known to have been lost in 1922.

Perhaps you can research Adam's employment further to see if anything survives.

It is easy to spot the marriages of Catherine's older siblings if you search from about 1868 onwards.  You can then try to find them in 1901 to see where they say they were born.
