Fleet Prison discharge 11 Nov 1786 - Ben Mayers
« on: Monday 11 June 18 21:58 BST (UK) »
Hello,

I just wondered if anyone might be able to tell me what is written next to my relatives name on his discharge from the Fleet Prison please?
Any help would be very gratefully received as the writing is too swirly for me to make out!
I notice the sentence begins with a name which is common for every person's dicharge, perhaps their lawyer or sponsor??

Best wishes,
Emma

Just to add briefly to the replies of Treetotal and goldie61 above ...

The first abbreviation is ats, standing for at the suit of ... showing that a debt was owed to Pisk by Mayers.

The very last part ... in the 27. year &c. ....is the date of the law term in which Mayers' discharge was sanctioned by the court, given in the form of a regnal year --Michaelmas term in the 27th year of the reign of George III = 1786.

Hello,
Thank you for the additional information I wondered at Joseph's involvement, I thought he might have been a lawyer!!!
Also thanks for the information regarding the meaning of 27, I thought that was how many years he had been in there which seemed a very long time!
Many thanks for your help.
