Flood Family Red Cow and Clondalkin
« on: Wednesday 13 June 18 00:32 BST (UK) »
Hi,

I am enquiring about the Flood family of Red Cow,

My records have them in the area from 1780s - 1900's.

The Flood family had a lime quarry at red cow and farm land and buildings in the Red Cow area.

The lime quarry was used to make bricks for houses in Dublin.

Michael Flood my 3rd great uncle live in Drimnagh Lodge. This is situated where Woodies is now on the Naas Road.

James Flood Lived in Stone House in Ballyfermot, which is now Markievicz park. The Floods also had a house called Porlester house at the junction Robinhood Road which is now a car garage.

The houses were eventually sold but i don't know where the Flood family went to after that or what happened to them.

Any information would be so welcoming.

Kind Regards

Paul

Welcome to RootsChat Paul,
In order to help you we need to tie down the dates a bit more.
How far into the 1900s do you have the family in the area?
Have you got them in the 1901 and 1911 censuses?
Have you looked for marriages and deaths on IrishGenealogy for dates after they left the area?

I can see Drimmagh Lodge on the old maps it's in the townland of Fox and Geese Common.

I can see Michael Flood is Landlord of several properties in Fox and Geese Common in 1901 but he isn't living there I don't see his name on any property in 1911.

Did Michael move to Stone House Inchicore  there is a entry in the Will Calendars 21 August 1901, widow Alice.
If that is the correct Michael

The family appear to have moved to Violet Vale possibly circa 1914 as i saw Nicholas O'Connor listed as Stone House 1914
As a former postman in the area i think Violet Vale was on the junction of Ballyfermot Road and St Laurence Rd not far from the Ranch and a short distance from Stone House.
Michael Tynan Flood a soldier married Catherine Mooney 1918 from that address

Michael died from Syncope 1924 same address informant Alice Brady Sister

Alice Flood of Stone House married James Brady 1912

Alice Elliott died 1942 at Violet Vale informant Alice Dalton   g daughter ?

edited to add Alice buried Glasnevin

Elizabeth Flood of Stone House married John Dalton 1909

1911

from their childrens births the above address seems to be Garden Ville

Is this James, Michael's father?
I see from Michael and Alice's marriage his father is James and Michael's address is Stone House Clondalkin.

I see a James Flood died 1862 of Stone House Inchicore, a Michael Flood of Fox and Geese is listed as an Executor
http://www.willcalendars.nationalarchives.ie/reels/cwa/005014887/005014887_00391.pdf
Can't be the same Michael that married Alice as he was only a child in 1862, but is this James his father.

This could get confusing
Michael Flood Fox and Geese died 1860
Son John left estate unadministered
Son Michael of Drimna Lodge was granted letters of administration
http://www.willcalendars.nationalarchives.ie/reels/cwa/005014902/005014902_00130.pdf

So the Michael of Drimna Lodge and Fox and Geese isn't the Michael who married Alice as their fathers have different names.
There could be a third son James and it's his son Michael of Stone House listed as Landlord in Fox and Geese in 1901

Checking the Census again Michael Flood is Landlord in Fox and Greese and Fox and Geese Common.
Assuming it just one man.
