Portsea Graves for James & Elizabeth Clark(e)
« on: Wednesday 13 June 18 09:00 BST (UK) »
Hi There
I am trying the trace the graves for my ancestors James and Elizabeth Clark(e).
They were born between 1772 and 1780 - tracing them has proved difficult and there are several potential couples including James Clark who married Elizabeth Silvester 1797 in Portsea.

I do not think this is the correct couple though - in the 1841 Census Elizabeth is stated as being from Ireland.

So can anybody help by looking up some burials for me in Portsea please?
Both James and Elizabeth died before the 1851 census.

For James there are 3 potential death records:-
Dec 1841 7 79
Dec 1841 7 89
Sep 1842 7 89

For Elizabeth there are 6 potential death records:-
as Clarke:-
Jun 1841 7 87
Sep 1847 7 93

as Clark:-
Dec 1841 7 110
Dec 1841 7 113
Mar 1844 7 108
Sep 1849 7 110

Many thanks in advance.

Sorry I cant help with burial places but the GRO now has the ability to search for ages on Death Reg's.

You have to register with the site but it is free to search.

Hi Trish

They had at least 4 children (4 are confirmed there may be others).

Leah 1812 (baptised in Portsea)
Twins Esau & Jacob 1814 baptised St Andrews, Farlington
Adam 1819 baptised St Andrews, Farlington

I can see why other people think James & Elizabeth Silvester are the parents as Elizabeth was born in Farlington - but it doesn't tie up with the 1841 census. Also Elizabeth Silvester was born in 1773 in 1844 she would have been around 71 (not 66).

In the 1841 census they are living in Rudmore, their son Adam is still living at home - their neighbours include Leah (married to Richard New) and Jacob (married to Nancy).

I think we can rule out the Marriage to Elizabeth COLE 11 May 1807, Wymering, Hampshire.
They have a Caroline Bapt there 1814 with conflicts with Esau/Jacob in 1814.

I just looked at 1841 Census. Elizabeth is down as not born in County (Hampshire)
I dont think the I in the next column infers she is born Ireland. If you go to the next Census page there are others with the same mark.
I think the enumerator was just emphasising the "not born in County"

So Marriage may have been in her home County.

I may be wrong there as some not born County dont have that mark. So she may have been born Ireland ::)
