Mary and Nathaniel Warner, Pulborough, Sussex help needed!!
« on: Wednesday 13 June 18 16:11 BST (UK) »
I'm looking for info about Mary  born c. 1812 in Ireland
She married Nathaniel Warner (1810) from Pulborough in Sussex and is down as a "baker". Nathaniel worked as a Miller's Labourer/Ag. Lab.

1841 Census they are living in Lower St, Pulborough
1851 Census two doors up at The Red Lion Inn
1861 Census Railway House , Horsham,
1871 Census Camberwell, Surrey   Mary is stated as blind
1881 Census Camberwell, Surrey.   strangely Mary no longer stating an Irish birth in last two Censuses and in 1881 named as Elizabeth M. Warner. She's is the same age as Mary would be and also stated as blind.

I need to find out if
a) 1871 and 1881 Censuses are the same people as 1841/51/61
b) Did Nathan Warner marry two blind wives (?????) or
c) Is Mary Warner going by an alias in 1881 as Elizabeth M (could M be Mary?)
d) Where in Ireland was Mary born
e) What is her surname and parentage?
f) How did she come to be in Sussex and meet Nathaniel
g) Anything else

Any help with Mary would be most welcome

P.s Nathaniel's parents - William Warner ( c.1788) and Sarah Pledge,
Nathaniel's grandparents - Nathaniel Warner (c. 1766) and Mary Scutt
(C. 1764)

Many thanks  ???

The 1881 says Elizabeth's been blind 10Y (10 years), born Peckham.  (Presumably if blind she did not fill in the household census return herself, so the information is only as reliable as the person who did).

Possible death: Elizabeth Warner aged 73, Sep qtr 1885 Camberwell.

The baby "son" Henry Warner aged 3 months in the 1861 census may in fact be an illegitimate grandson.

Henry Warner (no separate mother's maiden name), Mar qtr 1861 Horsham.

Henry Warner (no separate mother's maiden name), Mar qtr 1861 Horsham.

He's probably Agnes' child as he appears in her family as Henry Carpenter, 10 b Southwater, in 1871.

Agnes Warner married Richard Carpenter, Sep qtr 1861 Horsham.

That's great. Thank you so much. I had a record of a Nathaniel Warner married to a Smith but I discounted it. Time to have another look.

Very many thanks for all the information. I will be able to make a start on that now

Best wishes
