Thats really great  :)

thank you

Its funny how so many of this particular Barwell area branch went out to Canada... and made good.

I have more that went out there -- and still have descendants that I am in contact with in Alberta and Saskatoon and Ontario ..
I think they all set off on some kind of Government Scheme..  Well done to all of them..
although lots of them were Clarkes, they are  totally unrelated to this John Clarke.. However they do have a link ... distant but a link to his Wife Eliza Ellen Haywood..

love this game.. its like snakes and ladders... in a way.  brilliant.

Hello xinia

A wee correction, if I may?

In the 1916 census entry for George there is an "O" in the military service column which indicates he was overseas.

It appears he may have lied about his age to join up. I think this might be his military file. It is generally VERY slow to download. There are 22 pages in all.

Hi polarbear. I saw that "O" in the 1916 census but thought it was a "C". Wondered why he would be listed on the census as 'on Farm' if he was overseas. Good find on the military file, I couldn't get anywhere with that.

Thanks sami.

I wondered about his NOK being put as Mrs Helen later in the file but I see his mother is Eliza Ellen (original post), and may have preferred her 2nd name, so should be the correct file. Birth place is certainly correct. Doesn't look like he served for very long.
