You can only assume, as relationships weren't shown on the 1841 census.

Hi davidft, I do have a possible bap for the son William Ridley 9/1/1831 at Rothbury, and I agree with the death of Joseph before 1851 - found a highly likely death for him.  Non conformist records are a real possibility (have found a section of the family that baptised the children twice, one CoE and one non conformist)

I seem to be stuck with this couple, but as there are very few Joseph Ridley's born 1802 - 1806, I think I will chance it and contact the tree manager.  Was hoping to have all my ducks in a row first - right now I'm still rounding them up !!!

Joseph died Rothbury 1849. Son William was the only baptism I could find on frre reg, nothing on A...ty. A number of Ridleys noted at Kirkwhelpington on free reg

Hi Colin, yes that death is what I thought as well.  The Kirkwhelpington Ridley's (depending on the time span) are his parents and older siblings as well as the his parents deaths.  There is also earlier Ridley's (parents Thomas and Jane nee Codling) in that area.

Living at the Fairnley property in Little Tosson in 1851 census is :

Hannah Ridley, 56, Widow, Parish Relief, b. Little Tosson
Elizabeth Ridley, dau, 15, Servant, b. Little Tosson

Mark Ridley 15 and Ann Ridley 14 are working at other households in Little Tosson on the same page.

A marriage in Rothbury, June qtr 1845. Joseph Ridley and Hannah Nichol.

Hannah Nichol age 40 and Elizabeth Nichol age 5 are living 2 households away from Joseph and Mary Ridley and family in 1841 census.

Marriage cert would give Josephs fathers name and occupation.
