The Martin Family - Dublin
« on: Friday 15 June 18 01:32 BST (UK) »
Just wondering if anyone is researching the Martin family from Dublin?  I am new to family history and have started researching my Grandmother's family.  She was Emily Martin (known to everyone as Emmy) and was born in Dublin on 8 January 1915.  I know her father's name was James Martin and I have found two Martin families in Dublin in the 1901 and 1911 census but I'm unable to make a definite link with Emily Martin. My aunt and I remember that she had a brother, Billy and a sister, Lena or Helen (we think), but that's all we know.  Emily married Edward Noel Brady in 1932.  I'm reasonably sure they would have lived in the Rathmines/South Dublin areas but I could be wrong.  I joined Roots.ie but was unable to find any of my family in their records.
Any help or suggestions would be very welcome.

The address in the 1915 birth registration was Portobello Square, the 1911 census shows two James Martins there (maybe father & son?):

(presumably the Alice in this return is the Alice O'Brien mentioned in the 1915 birth registration.)

Not seeing a William or Lena/Helen to this couple, but maybe they came along later - are you confident that the Emily Martin born in Dublin on 8 January 1915 (as posted above at Reply #1) is your Emily?

Presumably James junior with parents & siblings in 1901:

Marriage of Emily's sister Elizabeth (Lizzie b. 1909 and shown in the 1911 census return for house 2.3 Portobello Square) to Francis Jenkins  in 1929? (same address as Emily in her 1932 marriage registration  - 6 O'Hara's Cottages, also, Emily Martin a witness)
