There are 3 B & Bs on the outskirts of Newtownards. The names of these properties are:
Ballycastle House
Edenvale Country House
Rockhaven
You can find details of these properties at Ards Tourism website.

Newtownards is a short distance from Belfast, you are also top end of Strangford Lough which is a tourist area, so cheaper would be Newtownards, East Belfast , Dundonald or even Comber but Comber will be more expensive ( all have buses to Newtownards) don't look east/south of Newtownards near Strangford Lough or you will pay premium prices
Maybe try Airbnb or www.bedandbreakfastsearcher.co.uk  and https://www.lodging-world.com/uk/northern-ireland/county-down/newtownards (in Bangor from £33 which is about 5 miles away)

It would be easier to make suggestions based on approx. when and for how long this trip to Newtownards to be and what sort of budget for accommodation. Using public transport could be tricky as you can get a bus somewhere in the early morning but find that the next return bus is in the evening (Sundays and even Saturdays often have a reduced timetable).
Away sorting out DNA matches... I may be gone for some time many years!
