St Margarets Church,Leicester
« on: Sunday 17 June 18 22:47 BST (UK) »
I am searching for information on Joseph Lovell who I understand was Sexton at St Margarets Church,Leicester in the early 1900's.He moved from Scotland with his daughters after his wife died to this role but the younger ones were in the Newarke orphanage by 1911.Any information would be really helpful

Many thanks Rosie, that is really helpful.Your research has made me question my assumption of his early death perhaps his younger daughters including Margaret my Grandmother, were placed temporarily in the orphanage whilst he established himself in Leicester in 1910/11.The marriage in 1895 and the 1901 census fit my research to date.He was a coachman at an estate near Dunbar.I had always assumed he was originally from Scotland but may have moved from Northamptonshire for work. Kind regards Andy

If you check the census for 1911 Leicester you will see he has some of his daughters with him
You can download the marriage on Scotlands People for a small fee of £7.50 for 30 credits  that will give You his parents names ..Not having much luck finding him on the 1901 census
