James Barron m E Laird 28 August 1860
« on: Monday 18 June 18 10:43 BST (UK) »
Hi. I am doing some research on this couple who I think moved to London shortly afterwards.

James Barron and wife Eliza eldest daughter Isabella is 19 in 1881 census meaning she was born in 1862 (Southwark, Surrey). In that census both James and Eliza are born in Scotland, he in 1830 and she in 1833. James was a carpenter / joiner.
On Isabella's marriage certificate her middle name is Laird suggesting possible maiden name of mother.
Therefore keen to find our any further details of the wedding listed for James Barron m E. Laird on 28th August 1860.
Looking forward to any replies.
Regards

The marriage in 1860 Dundee Second District is on SP you can download the certificate for 6 credits.

30 credits cost £7, so you have enough left over to find other records.

If Isabella was 19 in 1881, she was most likely born in 1861 not 1862, because the census in 1881 was taken on 3 April, so if she was born on or after 4 April 1862 she would not yet have had her birthday in 1881 and would only have been 18.

The GRO web site https://www.gro.gov.uk gives the maiden surnames of mothers of children born before 1911 in England and Wales.

There is a birth of Isabella Laird Barron, mother's maiden surname Laird, in Saint Saviour Surrey in the September quarter of 1861.

There are also
Agnes, born in the March quarter of 1866
Edward Alexander, September quarter 1867
Eliza Jane, June quarter 1870
Frederick, March quarter 1872

You can view the marriage certificate of James Barron to E Laird for less than the cost of a cup of coffee at www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk. This will tell you the full names of both sets of parents, including their mothers' maiden surnames.
Never trust anything you find online (especially submitted trees and transcriptions on Ancestry, MyHeritage, FindMyPast and other commercial web sites) unless it's an image of an original document - and even then be wary because errors can and do occur.

Thank you Colin and Forfarian
Much appreciated.
I was undertaking some quick research for an acquaintance trying to establish where his Barron ancestry lead back to and whether his roots might have connected with mine - it appears not.
I've passed the SP information on to him and he can follow it up.

Thank you again- always good to get such quick replies.
