Thomas Sheperd c1728. Elsfield, Oxon.??
« on: Tuesday 19 June 18 01:07 BST (UK) »
Hi folks.

Thomas Sheperd, marries Martha Howse, in 1757, Dinton, Buckinghamshire.

He gives his age as 29, of Elsfield, Oxon.  I have been given 2 baptisms ......

Thomas Shepherd, 19 January 1723. Toot Baldon, Oxon  Father Edward.
Thomas Sheppard,  5 March 1726. Chipping Norton  Father Richard.

The years are out, and I guess his age at marriage maybe rounded up, possibly.

The Toot Baldon baptism seems the most likely, only by location to Elsfield.  But I cannot discount the Chip. Norton baptism to readily, because of year.

Has anyone access to Elsfield PR's, to check them out please.

Variations of the surname are many. ::)

Thanks.

Steve. :)

The Elsfield records are on Ancestry but no Thomas. The following which you are considering below, well there are trees on A…..ty which suggests he married Elizabeth Jones.

Thomas Sheppard   Baptism    5 Mar 1727   Chipping Norton with Over Norton   Richard,Esther

Another tree has Thomas born in 1725 in Oxfordshire, his father, John, was 36 and his mother, Ann, was 39. He lost his mother when he was only 5 years old. He is noted (but how they know)? As living in Witney, Oxfordshire, 1741, 1754, 1757 then nothing.

This may be him on A..ty below?

Tho Shepherd   Baptism    16 Oct 1726   Thame, abode Moreton   John

Thame would be closer than Toot Baldon.....so that may make more sense,  It's hard to choose between them really, until I can marry them all off.

Time to get my face in the Marriage index again. ::)

Thanks Colin, much appreciated.
