Many thanks for all the helpful replies!

I'll use the GRO indexes (directly) much more than I have been doing.

I cant find anything on line for the 1884 Marriage.

1891 as you know 2 other Gravels are with David and his Family.
Jonah 1872/Thomas 1870

FreeREG has possibles;
Thomas 20 Oct 1871 to Thomas/Margaret
Jonah 11 Nov 1871 to James/Mary

I havent worked this out yet but 1871 there are 2 Davids;
David GRAVEL abt 1862 Pembrey Cambridgeshire England (sic) with Parents THOMAS/MARGARET
David GRAUEL abt 1863 Pembrey Carmarthenshire Wales, Nephew to Mary BEES, image is Rees, down as Sisters Son.

Trish :)

Wow Trish, this is wonderful! Many thanks!

The 1884 marriage is as much deduction than explicit 'proof'. Knowing their approx DOB's and (from census info) that David's wife was born in Llanegwad and that their first child was born in 1885/6, searching on Ancestry.co.uk narrowed it down to a couple of possible 'Sarah's' (including Lloyd). Finding Sarah's maiden name as "Lloyd" on the GRO birth indexes of their children gave me reasonable confirmation.

To be honest, I don't often do much research these days -  it's been over a year since this recent outburst :). And most of my 'research' has been upwards, not laterally (or downwards). David had two cousins 'Thomas' that fit the age group. I'll check their parent's census records to find out which one it was.

I must have blindly skipped over 'Jonah' because my GM's brother was a "Jonah" too and a very familar name (despite the generation difference). Your comment led me to discover that James/Mary had many more children together that the first daughter I had in my tree, including a Jonah whose age fits the census.

Thanks too for the 1871 David Gravel/Grauel references. I will check them both thoroughly!

Mike

Hi Trish,

Just wanted to thank you for your tip about FreeReg which I'd never used before. It's amazing! I've discovered three previous generations of the Gravel family in and around Pembrey from the parish records. I'm sure FreeReg is going to keep me busy for the next year or two  ;).

I always have Familysearch.Org and FreeREG open when trying to help others. They are great free sites.
Good luck with it all :)
