East Yorkshire Regiment
« on: Wednesday 20 June 18 15:32 BST (UK) »
Good afternoon,
I'm looking for a bit of help please my gt grandfather George William Hart served in the East Yorkshire Regiment  during world war one I think. I have a document off ancestry but I can't make out what it is about (copy very poor). I know he was born in 1879 and died 31/12/1953. Could anyone help with any info please.

Thanks for reading this

Is he George W Hart 38273 E.Yorks. Regt later 606205 Lab. Corps?
Maybe you could specify what it is you don't understand.
While we wait I can tell you he attested (joined) Dec. 1915 under the Derby Scheme.
Info here: http://www.rootschat.com/links/01m8k/
He went into Reserve ie. back to his civvy job until required which was April 1917 when he was called up.
He stayed in the UK until 14/9/17 when he was transferred to 68th. POW Company Labour Corps.
I can only assume that he went to France shortly after as he's back in the UK 20/9/18 with 89th. POW Coy. but this only lasts for 20 days & then there's nothing on his record. However his discharge Coy. in May 1919 states the 68th. POW Coy.
The only E.Yorks Battalion mentioned is the 3rd. which didn't go overseas as it was a Training Batt. so I think including that on his Medal card is a mistake as only Batts. he served overseas with should be included.
