Thomas OUNKLE absent father
« on: Wednesday 20 June 18 16:22 BST (UK) »
I'm hoping that someone else has come across this name in Manuden

William DELLOW bap. 31/5/1767 mother Mary DELLOW father Thomas OUNKLE

There's another baptism
Daniel OUNKLE bap. 8/5/1767 mother Mercy WHITE father Thomas OUNKLE

I can find no further records for the Ounkle name. I would have thought that there should be some parish records relating to bastardy charges against Thomas.
Does anyone have access to these sort of records for Manuden?

I assume it's quite likely that the name is a mistranscription, but I can't think of what???

Thanks in advance for any assistance

THe name certainly looks like Ounkle in the parish register
It will have been transcribed how the vicar heard it from I assume the mothers.

Thank you. Not being able to see an image of the register I couldn't judge for myself. It's such a strange name. THe fact that there are no others does tend to make me think it's an error. Not sure where I can go from here  :(

Wondering if you have an update for this? Thomas "Ounkle" of Manuden is my 5th great-grandfather. I believe Ounkle is German.

Hi Trish
Thanks very much for the info, I'm not sure how it fits in at the moment, but hopefully i'll find the connection eventually. It certainly shows that there are more around with this surname.
Thanks again

Hyphen, interesting to hear from you.

Thomas Ounkle is my 6th great-grandfather, who was your 6xgg? I'd be interested to know if you are related to anyone else on this branch.
I've attached a descendant chart.
