Electoral registers - Sale
« on: Thursday 21 June 18 17:07 BST (UK) »
Can anybody help me?  I have been passed an address of 91 Helsby Road, Sale, for the years approximately 1960-1970 but do not know what the connection is in relation to the family tree.

Usually electoral rolls are in the local studies section of the particular town library -- in this case Sale (if there is one). May be worth making enquiries with that library to see if they are there. Usually they are searchable by address.

Googling Sale Library -- the local studies section brings up Trafford.

I did contact Trafford Libraries but without a surname they could not help me due to Data Protection.  I did ask if they had any Kelly's Directories but only up to 1942 but Helsby Road did not appear then so must have been built post war.  Once again many thanks for your help.

I am so sorry about that Ziggie -- I thought the ones in the libraries were searchable by address, maybe that's just the older ones.

I don't know where you live -- are you anywhere near Sale? You could try popping along to the address!

What about the local Planning Dept at the the Town Council -- they should know when it was built, or whether the name was changed from something else. I am clutching at straws really.

Another option would be the local Newspaper -- maybe you could place an appeal in there -- ie Searching for occupants of 91, Helsby Rd, Sale, 1960s/1970s.

I don't live local so popping in would not be an option.  Have taken on board your suggestion about placing an ad in local newspaper but have decided to leave search for the time being.  Thank you once again.

Ziggie -- have you considered writing to the occupier of that address? It would be a bit of an awkward letter to write -- but you could just say you are wanting to get in touch with the householders who lived there in the 1960s or thereabouts.

The UK Electoral Registers from 2002-2018 are on Find My Past.

You can input a search for Helsby Road -- BUT you would then need to look at each result to see the number, as the results are in alpha order of name. From the date people could 'opt out' of going on the Public Register no-one will be shown if the family there did that -- but you should see a family of voting age people for the earlier years (I can't remember the date we could opt out - but it wasn't as early as 2002).
