Royal Marine Enquiry
« on: Friday 22 June 18 05:37 BST (UK) »
Good Afternoon, I'm wondering if someone could tell me where I could start to find a death for a man who was listed as a Private in the Royal Marines when he married in1835. A marriage between Samuel Edwards and Elizabeth Moore took place on 29/12/1835 in the Parish of Stoke - Demerel - Devon.  He is listed as a private - Royal Marines.  I'm trying to confirm his death as I believe Elizabeth married again in December 1838 - Betsey Edwards -widow.  Any help would be so appreciated.

FindMyPast has the burial record (transcription) of a -

Samuel Edwards, 8 Mar 1836, age 22, East Stonehouse

Do you have baptismal details for Samuel?

Hi, Betsey Edwards married Richard Parsons in Bideford Devon on 28th June 1838 she is listed as being a widow, and lists her father as Thomas Moore.  This would be my lady because when she came to Australia 1839/40 A Richard Parsons and wife and two children is listed.  Richard died about a year later in South Australia and then Betsy Parsons married a John Chanter.  When Betsy and John started having children she has listed her maiden name as Betsy Moore.

Hi
No poor old Betsy didn't have good luck, she had 3 husbands by the look of it. I think she had at least 9 - 10 children, and her last husband she married in Australia who also came out from Devon had 3 wives and at least 16 children between all of the wives - he must have been made of good stuff. I think they were all on the ship Java which left England about 1839 and arrived South Australia Feb 1840.
Did someone have the baptism of Samuel Edwards? I'm wondering if Betsey and Samuel had any children. Would there be any details of Samuel's service in the Marines at Kew?
Thanks I'm really appreciative of any help
