Henry Charles Toelle
« on: Friday 22 June 18 13:07 BST (UK) »
Hello,  I need help to try and trace the father of Henry Charles Toelle who was born in 1826 in Detmold,  Lippe, Nordrhein-West Falen, Germany.  I believe his father was also Henry or Heindrik.
Henry Charles (son)  married Catherine Dougherty in Australia.
I am having trouble trying to get answers from Germany and also a language barrier.  Any suggestions for my search?  Thank you

I suppose he was called Heinrich K(C)arl Toelle (Tölle)
He could have had more christian names, quite common in the 19 Century
Names of the Paternal grandfathers or witnesses plus a given name from his parents.

There are quite a lot of Toelle´s in county Lippe so need a bit more info.

What proof have you got for :
1. birth 1826 in Detmold
2. Fathers name
3. when did he arrive in Australia
4. have you got the passenger list

Any other documents that might help

Dave

A couple of suggestions:

Heinrich could also be the fathers name.

If he traveled with his son to Australia and passed away there, it's possible this is him given what little info we have to go on:

Just my 2 cents.
I just like to do photo restores.

Hello davecapps,  Thanks for your help.  In the Syd. Morning Herald of 18 Sept.1900 it has "Toelle aug 31 at his residence Montview, Birchgrove Rd. Balmain. Henry Toelle beloved husband of C.Toelle aged74 years native of Detmold, Germany. American. Papers please copy."
As he was 74 years old this means that he must have been born around 1826.
As yet I haven't found when he arrived in Australia but he married Catherine Dougherty on 5 Feb. 1857 in Australia so it would be between his birth 1826 and 1857.  I can't put my finger on the proof at present but I was told that his father was also Hendriek (Henry). This is yet to be proved.
Thanks for your suggestions.

Saw that as well, but I would invest in a call to the cemetery just to clarify as the "unknown" birth date sometimes makes findagrave contributions mislabeled. Better to check and confirm or eliminate the possibility

off we go.

genealogy research homepage for the province of Lippe

http://www.nhv-ahnenforschung.de/index.htm

it´s only in German, but I´m sure you could contact them in English.
Wolfgang Bechtel,
bechtel.wolfgang@t-online.de

On this site you will find a link - Volkszählungen
under this link you find the following Census lists from 1828 for the province of Lippe

http://www.nhv-ahnenforschung.de/volkszaehlungen/index.htm

There are two lists 34 and 35.

This is the link to search through list 34

http://www.nhv-ahnenforschung.de/Impressum/google-volkszaehlung-1828-34.htm

List 35
http://www.nhv-ahnenforschung.de/Impressum/google-volkszaehlung-1828-35.htm

Enter Tölle and you will find several hits.

I realize that this is not going to help you find your Tölle in the right place if you have little or no knowledge of German, so i did some research for you.

see following entry
