White Jacket of Liverpool
« on: Friday 22 June 18 22:02 BST (UK) »
Trying to find information about a ship called “White Jacket” of Liverpool , one of my relatives was reported dead onboard after an outbreak of cholera and fever , his family were given notice of his death and mourned their loss until a shock letter arrived a few months later notifying of his status ,

His name was James Samuel son of Andrew Samuel of Peterhead Scotland he was serving onboard this ship and was presumed dead of the outbreak ,although it was a mistake and news sent home by someone concerned with the situation

I would like to find any information on this ship and James Samuel if possible

Thanks

Ryan

Are you certain of the name of the ship
I can’t see that name, but the “white star line” Has ships that include the Blue Jacket, the Red Jacket and the White Star

Cancel that, just found mention

Newspaper article reads

Deaths -
At sea between Calcutta an Mauritius on 3rd aug, onboard ship “ White Jacket” James Samuel son of Andrew Samuel, Cooper , Peterhead aged 22 years

Now I’m
Starting to wonder as  error was made about his death

Maybe the name of ship has been confused Aswell

I’ve found movements of the white jacket between Calcutta and Mauritius, so I think that’s probably right.
But other ships say they have fever on board, but haven’t found mention of that one yet.

You get more results if you search White Jacket Trevellick.

It left Calcutta for Mauritius on 24 July 1865.  Dundee courier 8th September
