Alexander McHargue

Was Alexander McHargue born here? Many of my relatives are continuing to seek where he was born and who he married before moving to America.  We've given up on who his parents were. Thanks!

Searching for an "Alexander McHargue" born in Scotland? Could this be him?

https://www.findagrave.com/memorial/186107662/alexander-mchargue

Born:1725
Renfrewshire, Scotland

Died: 1789 (aged 63–64)
Paxtang, Dauphin County, Pennsylvania, USA

if so, then there is a ton of information on him. For example:

http://www.montyhistnotes.com/genealogy/getperson.php?personID=I26853&tree=MontyHistNotesI

Side note: in that second link, there is mention of a Alexander McHargue Jr. as well.

I just like to do photo restores.

McHargue nothing on this name in the OPR's (birth/marriage) in all of Scotland.

However, there are McHarg's and wonder if somehow somewhere along the way the "ue" was added or removed.  Wigtownshire seems to have the majority of McHarg's during the early 18thC.

I went over to Ancestry and see quite a few McHargue's and one spotted my eye...William McHargue b 19 Jul 1754 in Wigtownshire died 1836 in Kentucky.

This is what the actual OPR baptism says...
MCHARG WILLIAM   ALEXANDER MCHARG/AGNES COWAN FR61 (FR61)
19/07/1754 Penninghame which is a parish in Wigtownshire.

So, although you have a McHargue, I'm betting you should be looking at McHarg's while researching in Scotland.

If Alexander had  his 1st Son 1740 I would think he was born before 1725.

Familysearch.Org has;

Alexander McHARG christened 19 March 1719 Penninghame, Wigtown
Father:   Alexander Mcharg
Mother:   Janet Mckinna

Alexander HARG christened 6 February 1715, Wigtown, Wigtown
Father:   James Harg
Mother:   Elizabeth Mcmillan

I see that Tree has Alexanders 1st Wife as Janet McKinna.

Something is wrong there.

Christening of a Alexander McHarg 29 Mar 1719 Penninghame.
Fathers name Alexander Mcharg
Mother's Name   Janet Mckinna********
Other children of theirs;
Jonet 1713***
Mary 1714***
John 1717
Marion 1721
Elizabeth 1725
Samuel 1727
William 1729
Sarah 1732
Patrick 1735

Marriage;
Alexander Mcharg
Jonet Kennan
29 Jan 1712, Event Place Penninghame, Wigtown, Scotland

**** 1st 2 have Mother as Jonet Kennan/Kenan and others as Janet/t McKinna and variants

I also find it strange that they have Alexanders 2nd Wife  Jane Jean Montgomery born 1705***.
I dont think she would be having children born 1760/1765!

Sorry more questions than answers.

Trish :)
