Rudkin from Rutland
« on: Saturday 23 June 18 16:56 BST (UK) »
Anyone researching the surname Rudkin from Rutland?

I am currently looking at three men from Rutland who died in WW1.

They are;

Charles Iliffe Rudkin 1883-1918

George William Rudkin 1896-1915

Henry Lovick Rudkin 1892-1917

William Rudkin 1895-1917

I have done a lot of research and have found a connection between two of the men to each other.

As I have a lot of Rudkin names in my tree I am wondering if there is a connection to me however small.

I have attempted to post this message more than once, so if it appears several times please ignore it.  My internet or computer is playing up today.

Without knowing anything about your Rudkin line it would be difficult to establish any connection.  The 1901 census has 31 male entries for that surname all born and living in Rutland

Who are the 2 who are connected to each other and in what way?

Does your research show any connection between those 2 and your own Rudkin line?

Have you checked the parentage of each of the names given and if so - do they fit your family profile?

Yes -- it will be a case of working them backwards through census records to see if they 'meet' up with your Rudkin lines at some point.

The GRO index with mother's maiden names will be useful for you also. Presumably you have researched your own lines so will be able to compare the lines of these men.

Have you recorded siblings of your direct ancestors on your own lines - if so that should help as you work them backwards also.
Places of interest;
Lancashire, West Yorkshire, Southern Ireland, Scotland.

I already know who the parents of each man are and I have established that two of the men are first cousins.  I still need to do more work on the other two to see if they connect to these two or to me.

I have researched each line back a few generations but as yet they do not meet in the middle apart from the two men I have just mentioned.

FTM is just doing a sync so I'll let you know which two men are related tomorrow, thanks.

I'll update you when I have had a successful sync.

FTM has been playing up for days, alternating between red, orange and green status.

I stated the sync during the green status yesterday which failed after it went orange when it was nearly finished.

I am still trying to sync my tree.

This follows a period of downloading and merging my tree which finally finished yesterday after taking most of the day and the day before.

I am so fed up with the instability I am thinking of closing my ancestry account and using another family tree programme.

Ancestry don't know the phrase "if it ain't broke don't fix it".  All the problems I am having I am sure is down to ancestry and not the new owners of FTM.

Still not had a successful but I thought I'd update you anyway.

I thought I had worked out that two of the men were first cousins but I can't seem to see that connection now ???

One of the men seems to have a very distant relationship to me and there is no connection with another.

I'll post again later when I've had a proper look at FTM.
