Had you already seen and disregarded the 1841 census entry for the possible John PIPER?
Born Iden.

Hi omega 1
This, I believe, is the same family which I have noted appearing  on the 1841 census.
(See post above)

On that entry, father William is not present, only Sarah and 2 children.

I am happy to type up details, but not sure whether the information is required or not.

Interestingly, about 3 or 4  doors away in the same street, is one Hannah PIPER with her likely son and grandchild.

One wonders about a connection.

Haybag, we must remember that errors on death certificates are very common.  The informant may have wrong information or be distressed and muddled or just be "having a guess" regarding  the names of deceased parents.

I have the marriage of John Piper and Charlotte Cooper and John's father is listed as William.  His death cert states his mother's name was Hannah, no maiden name mentioned.  John and Charlotte came to NZ and he was in the lops industry in Hawkes Bay.  He wrote an article about the weather, working conditions etc in NZ to let those know back in England there was a better opportunity for some.  He, Charlotte and children were helped to get to NZ as his employer has sacked him and put them out of their cottage because John was interested in a new union movement being established.
