Duncan McAulay Portnahaven Islay
« on: Sunday 24 June 18 17:01 BST (UK) »
I am trying to trace a Duncan McAulay pre 1811. He died in 1858 in Portnahaven Islay and I have traced him in each census prior to this. Freecen records him in 1851 aged 70 as being born in Portnahaven. I have found his marriage to Marrion McDougall, in Kildalton Islay  21/09/1811.

There is a Duncan McAulay born in 1787 in Kilcalmonell & Kilberry but if Freecen is correct, this is unlikely to be him.

Does anyone have ideas of where I may search next?

Have you downloaded a copy of his 1858 death cert from Scotland’s People which should show his parents names and mother’s maiden name

From the index it looks like his mother's maiden surname was Carmichael -
Death , Duncan McAulay , age 80 , Portnahaven.

Thank you. Yes the death certificate did give his parents' names-I did not realise this. So this rules out the Kilcalmonell & Kilberry thread. I will try to follow up John McAulay & Mary Carmichael in Portnahaven.
Best wishes
