James Caulfield, born Jan 18, 1788, Co Tyrone
« on: Sunday 24 June 18 19:00 BST (UK) »
Would anyone have any information on James Caulfield who was born Jan 18, 1788 in Co. Tyrone and emigrated to Ohio, USA in 1839 with his whole family. He married Margaret Graham Abt 1814-1815 as their first child Margaret Jane was born July 16, 1816. Next child was Nancy born Dec 22, 1820. Not sure where third child, only son that I have, was James G., born abt 1822.
Fourth child was Matilda who was born July 28, 1823 near Belfast. Youngest child was Susannah born sept 12, 1829.
Would appreciate any help

I am still searching for info on James Caulfield. Yesterday, I  received the obit for his daughter  Elizabeth Enoch who died in 1888 in Humboldt, Richardson, Nebraska. She was born in Co. Antrim as per obit although her father James was born in Co. Tyrone as per his obit in Iowa. Elizabeth married Absalom M. Enoch,
It seems that the older children were born in Co. Tyrone, with son James being born in Annacloy?? on Oct 11, 1818. the whole family emigrated firstly to Ohio,  then Illinois to Iowa although son James died in Tennessee.
the father James married Margaret Graham about 1815 possibly in co. Tyrone. Is anyone else researching this family? Would dearly love to find James' parents.
Thank you

I am thinking that James Caulfield was from Kilsally in County Tyrone.  I suspect the family was Catholic.  Would there be any hope of finding a birth  in 1788?

Townlands gives Kilsally in the civil parish of Ballyclog
https://www.townlands.ie/tyrone/dungannon-upper/ballyclog/kilsally/
Irish Ancestors has the spelling as Kilsalley in the RC parish of Donaghenry
https://www.johngrenham.com/c_parish/c_parish_main.php?civilparishid=2330&county=&civilparish=Ballyclog
Donaghenry records start 1822

Thanks Sinann. The Caulfield name is mentioned under Ballyclog in Lewis’ topographical dictionary of 1837  although not James.  If the family was Catholic there is no hope of finding them in county Tyrone before they moved to County Antrim where Matilda was born in 1823.  If they were Church of Ireland maybe there is a hope of finding a couple children in Co. Tyrone these being James G. in 1818 (not 1822) and Agnes in 1820.

I have learned that the baptisms that  I  have for the children of James Duffin married to Mary Caulfield came from a microfilm of Ireland Catholic Parish Armagh, Donoghenry, County Tyrone, Ireland. Residence Kilsally Parish-Bollyclog.
I am fairly certain that James Caulfield is Mary's brother and the baptisms of  his  first three children are in  Co. Tyrone, last three are in Co. Antrim.  James' first three  children are before 1820 so if  they are in the same parish, I  will not find them. Nor will I find the births of Mary or James.

A William Caulfield and Alice Donnelly had a son Michael born 18 October 1829 The townland given is Ballymurphy an adjoining townland of Drumads You are probably aware that there are different spellings or mis-spellings of the Caulfield name
