Engine/Enginer Tenter

Something to do with working in a cotton mill perhaps?

Engine Tenter. The crossed out letter at the end of Engine, together with the number 14, indicate that a mistake has been corrected, and there should be a corresponding "fourteen" (in words) with initials or signature in the margin.

Thanks everyone, I was hoping to track him down on a census but cant find him on any census with that job, unless his son Lawrence is telling porkies :(   or maybe he changed his jobs.
