Letters of administration for Elizabeth Wybrow
« on: Monday 02 July 18 02:02 BST (UK) »
The "NSW Government Gazette" states:
"Notice is hereby given, that David Wybrow of the City of Sydney, mariner, intends to apply to this Honourable Court, at the expiration of fourteen days from this date, that letters of administration be granted in the above Estate to him, as the next of kin of the deceased. Dated the 31st day of January 1845.

But I can't find Elizabeth Wybrow/Whybrow in the NSW Deceased Estates index. I've also looked under her maiden name Clark(e)/Crookshank(s)/Cruikshank(s) and the name of her de facto (Tindal).

Is there any way of obtaining a copy of these Letters? Do they even exist?

From a different thread for a different RChatter

If an Intestacy or otherwise, it would have been dealt with at NSW Supreme Court, Eccs Division, and the person appointed to administer was the Executor ...

Description
This series includes papers for both testate and intestate estates both before and after the establishment of the Curator of Intestate Estates in 1847. Intestate papers in the series do not belong with the numbered series of Curator's Case Papers (6/3481-910), and their original order was disrupted before being transferred as State archives.
Due to their miscellaneous nature they have been boxed chronologically and indexed by name, regardless of form, whether part of a numbered sequence or not, etc. The index is available in the Western Sydney reading room (COD516).
The papers comprise the following: oaths, petitions, caveats, affidavits, notices to creditors, lists of accounts current, precipes for citation, letters of administration, copies of wills, some correspondence and other miscellaneous papers.

The series is not complete, and the information varies from cases to case. An index entry may signify either a bundle of papers including a copy of a will, or it may record only a creditor's account of money owed to him by the deceased.

(X953-54, 6/4185-97). 2 vols, 14 boxes.

Fingers Crossed that the file has more answers, although I am sure those will lead to more questions ... afterall, chasing those new questions is what makes family history such a life long habit...

I'm gobsmacked, cupoflife! Thanks so much. Still puzzling how I missed it :-)

Edit: I still can't find it using the Keyname Search or any of those listed under Probate and Wills etc

JM, so true. If we had all the answers, what would we do?!

Hi Jan,

Just type the name into the main search box on the home page.

Would you like me to photograph it for you next time I am at the Archives?

Thanks Ros, too easy - I was going straight to the online indexes page, skipped the front page altogether.

I'd love a copy of the info if you get a chance - thanks so much for the offer :-)
