Sorry to jump in on your thread, but I'm new to all this DNA stuff too and according to a one to one comparison with someone I have a DNA match to, I got these results:
Largest segment = 66.6 cM
Total of segments > 7 cM = 930.5 cM
37 matching segments
Estimated number of generations to MRCA = 2.0

Would I be right to assume this is an aunt/uncle?

Nobody can tell you definitively the relationship between you, it is up to you to work it out.

It is obviously a close relationship, which a paper trail should confirm. If there is no paper trail, you will be talking about probabilities rather than confirmation.

It could be half siblings, if other factors indicate the possibility. It could be a little further away.

Have you seen the shared cM project? These are results submitted by testers to show wide differences in the inherited cM between different relationships.

https://thegeneticgenealogist.com/2017/08/26/august-2017-update-to-the-shared-cm-project/

This shows a few more possibilities, including cousin/half cousin, it will be up to you and the tester to find out the most likely.

Thank you both for your replies, I'll look into it. As I was adopted as a baby, it makes things that much more difficult to confirm

My reply was to nestagj, but similar applies to you, cindym.

Yours is not as close a match. With adoptees I think you will need to get several close matches before making conclusions.

Autosomal DNA is not an exact science, more working through all possibilities and probabilities.
