A possible name for father on this thread

With reference to the mention of Louis and Betsy in Birkenhead, that man looks to have died in 1941.

Once Again,Thank you.

Radcliff.

Yes, that is Betsey, Louis wife. Like everyone else in the family, she was buried at New Farnley Jewish Cemetery in Leeds. Louis died, in May, 1938. at Salford, whilst staying with his daughter Leah. He is definitely not buried in Leeds.

The Louis and Betsey Bernstein, living in Birkenhead, are a different couple.

Yes, I have now established that I have found the correct Nathan Bernstein, from the 1891 census . There have been awful age discrepancies for him,  and I cannot find him in 1901,but I have his marriage in 1904, and I think I will send for the marriage certificate. The name I was given, in Hebrew for his father was Zvi Hirsh, this came from Nathan's headstone. I really wanted to a) confirm this , and b) make sure he was Louis's brother, hence wanting to find Louis's grave.

I want to really get one generation back with the Jewish families. It is proving very difficult . All came from Russia, without parents,it would seem in the 1880's,possibly soon after their marriages in the Old Country, to start a new life. some were not here in 1901/1911, so until the next census comes out ! 1939 register has been a wonderful thing......

I'll keep plodding.

Thanks Again
JeannieR

Hi JeannieR,

Re Birkenhead. It must be your other thread which mentions that couple -same names but I was pointing out that it wasn’t your family.
I wasn’t perhaps very clear.
Hopefully, Nathan’s marriage certificate helps to confirm father’s name.
