Marriage St. Nicholas, Newcastle
« on: Monday 02 July 18 18:16 BST (UK) »
I should be very grateful if someone could check out a marriage for me.  It took place at St. Nicholas, Newcastle, on 21 April 1831 between William Mears and Anne Beckington.

I'm trying to establish whether this is a couple I've been researching, whose marriage is proving elusive!  So while all details are of interest, I'm particularly keen to know whether the bride's surname has been correctly transcribed and the names of the witnesses.

Many thanks for your help.

The marriage appears on the Durham Bishops transcripts.

One of the witnesses, Thomas Stevenson appears frequently in the records, so is quite likely an officer of the church.

If this is the couple I'm looking for, I'd think it very possible. They would probably choose to be married somewhere no-one knew them, or that they weren't already married!

Many thanks.

I was in a bit of a hurry yesterday and didn't pick up on your reference to the Durham BTs.  I can't seem to get on to them, but I'll pass this on to my research partner (we're looking for his ancestors), who lives abroad. He's better with Family Search than I am!

Many thanks again.

your reference to the Durham BTs.  I can't seem to get on to them,

Hopefully this link will take you there http://www.rootschat.com/links/01mb3/

Bear in mind that they are not indexed/searchable by keyword, so you have to trawl through to find the entry you're hoping for, but practice makes perfect!

Also, not all parishes and dates are included. However they are a wonderful resource, an absolute must for folks with north-east ancestors  :)

Did the link work?

If not try https://www.familysearch.org/wiki/en/England,_Durham_Diocese_Bishops%27_Transcripts_(FamilySearch_Historical_Records) and click on the link under the words Access the Records.

Afraid not, so far - there seems to be a problem with Wiki and upload, whatever that means!  I have realised that I should be using another search engine, as mine is too old. But at the moment, that too is coming up with the same message. I'll keep trying.

I've also  passed your message on to my friend, but he's 7 hours behind us.

You're being very patient!

There's something wrong with that link I gave.

Try this one https://www.familysearch.org/search/collection/1309819 and click on 'browse through images', then click on the relevant county on the next page that appears.

It's worth persisting  :)
