How to get a copy of a will from 1908?
« on: Tuesday 03 July 18 02:25 BST (UK) »
How can I locate and order a copy of a will from 1908?
I have found the will I'm looking for in the will calendars on the National Archives of Ireland website. Probate was granted at Limerick in 1908.
Is there a way to order a copy of it without going personally to the National Archives?
Any suggestions or advice would be appreciated.

All information is on website.

The records of wills and administrations in the National Archives include the following:

(a) Original wills and administration papers lodged in the Principal Registry since 1904 and in most District Registries since 1900 (indexed in the annual calendars; wills and administration papers lodged in Armagh, Belfast and Londonderry are in PRONI). Original wills and administration papers are transferred to the National Archives once the grant is 20 years old. Copies of testamentary documents can be ordered by completing and posting the testamentary copy order form.

It occurred to me to look the will up on https://probatesearch.service.gov.uk/, which I've used before to order copies of wills from England. The advantage for me to using this site over the National Archives of Ireland is that it's possible to pay online from overseas.
The will is listed, as there was a small amount (35 pounds or so) of assets in England. Not sure if it will give the full details, but have crossed my fingers.
I mention this source in case it helps someone else.

Ah yes, random acts of genealogical kindness! I have used that in the past, but had forgotten about it.
It's a great way to access resources that are not online.
Thanks for the reminder, dublin1850.
