German Poem ? (Translation help needed)

Hi,
I was recently given some old family docs and this was amongst them, which I think is very beautiful.
I would love to know what it says and have tried typing the words into a translator but several variations are coming up and its difficult to know which is the correct phrase etc.

If anyone fluent in German ever comes across this, would be v grateful for your interpretation.

Not easy to translate poetry.  Approximately:

The most beautiful thing created in the world
is the star in the blue canopy of heaven.
It's the deep and miraculous power of the eye.
It's the colourful glory of the scented flowers.

The best thing in the wide universe
is a maiden's heart in her first dream of love.
But the greatest thing in all creation is a man
because he should be master of us women -- and can.

Am not sure I concur with that sentiment!
What do the ladies say?

I'm surprised there wasn't a spate of replies with improvements!
Of course you can always change the words a bit, while retaining the sense, if it helps the scansion or sounds more poetic (or do I mean sentimental?).  Getting a translation to rhyme is much harder and probably makes it sound stilted.
