Marriage in New York 1863
« on: Tuesday 03 July 18 16:41 BST (UK) »
I have found a newspaper article concerning a marriage which could be my Great-grandparents, but can't be 100% certain it is them.

It just mentions the bride and grooms names and no other information, has anyone ordered a marriage certificate before and would it give their parents names?

Any help gratefully received,
Maureen.

Where in NY? and what were their names if you want to say. A lot of places weren't keeping civil records that early, I don't think.

George Stringer and Harriet Bradshaw.

It was from extracts of marriages from the Brooklyn Eagle and the New York Evening Post (Barber Collection) of 29th April and I should have put 1864 not 63.

Maybe there was a marriage announcement in the paper?

I don't have a subscription to newspapers.com, but the results from Googling the minister's name looks like they say that some people were married "by Rev. E. M. Johnson, at his residence, 294 Pearl street"

And in the 4th ward of Brooklyn in 1850
Harriet Bradshaw, 11, born in England
with parents

No proof that this is the right Harriet. If Mr Johnson lived in the 4th ward it might increase the chances though.

The Brooklyn Daily Eagle is available free online and can be searched.

You can see the announcement here, on page 3 near the bottom of the second column.  No parents are mentioned.

Thanks for the information, I don't think I will get to the bottom of this.

It's a bit of a long shot as Harriet was born in Ireland and George in England and it's the only marriage I can find anywhere with those two names.
