A little snippet that might be of interest.
I found Mary Carroway's baptism at St Clement's church, Sandwich on 30/5/1773. Her parents were William and Alice, nee Epps, who married at St Peter's, Sandwich 13/6/1771.
There were 2 other children: Elizabeth 11/7/1771 and William 12/6/1772 baptised at Sandwich.
After a 10 year gap the Carroway family start recording baptisms in Deal - 6 of them from 1782 to 1789. This implies, if it is the same family, that 10 years or so were spent away from Sandwich prior to moving to Deal.

Regards

AJ

Thanks, AJ.

It's a shame there is no clue to William (Senior)'s origins.

The children I have for William and Alice Carroway baptised in Sandwich are:

Elizabeth 1771
William 1772 - died 1773
Mary Ann 1773
Sarah 1774 - died 1775
William 1775 - died 1779
Hannah 1779 - died 1779
Harriet 1778
Alice 1779
Hannah 1781 - died 1781

The baptisms I have in Deal are:

Jeremiah 1782 - died 1870
Robert 1784 - died 1784
William 1786
James 1788 - died 1788
John 1789 - died 1789

Have I missed one in Deal?

I went through the Sandwich baptisms fairly quickly and could well have missed some. They haven't been typed up and indexed yet as I am concentrating on Deal.
The missing Carroway from Deal is John. Full list below. There are, however, no burials listed for the family in either St Leonard's or St George's.

10/7/1782  Jeremiah
26/3/1784  Robert
5/6/1785    John
16/7/1786  Wiliam
19/4/1788  James
9/8/1789    John

Will keep looking for burials.

Regards

Thanks again, AJ.

The burials of the sons baptised in Deal seem to have been in Sandwich.

Do you want me to look for the burial dates in Sandwich or have you got them?

My apologies, AJ.  I should have been clearer in my response - I have found the burials of the sons in Sandwich.  Thanks again.

I'm hoping find siblings for my 4x great-grandfather William Yates, baptized in Deal in 1792.

Hi, Seaton Smithy.

I found your message Googling trying to find out whether my husband's 3rd great-grandfather, James Yates (b. abt. 1786, Deal, Kent) might be a sibling to your William Yates, Sr.

Have you found anything further on that?

AJ100, would you be able to check for me and see if you have a James Yates being baptized in Deal anytime around 1790?  Like many of the Yates men in my husband's line, James was a mariner, so it sounds like James may be a sibling to William, Sr.

Any information would be much appreciated.  Thanks in advance!

Hi Tina

I have to admit this line of research got put on the back burner.

I haven't found anything further than the two baptisms for siblings of William (Jnr) identified by AJ - Mary Ann baptised 22/8/1794 and Richard baptised 14/3/1800.

It would be interesting to find if there is a connection to your James Yates.

I understand things getting put on the back burner.  Between kids and career, I've been working on family trees for about 22 years, off and on.

I'll report back if I find anything new!   :)
