James O'Sullivan
« on: Wednesday 04 July 18 17:41 BST (UK) »
According to a family tree a person of this name, born 1919, died in Dublin 6 March 1971. Details about him on the tree are minimal, so I am wondering if it possible to find if he was the James Brendan O'Sullivan born in Cork in 1919.
The tree does show he was married to the former Marcella Howley, 1920-2000, who was the wife of James Brendan O'Sullivan born 1919 - but is it possible to show that its the correct death for him? (Unfortunately I have had some bad experiences recently with trees making incorrect assumptions).

Many thanks
John

Yes.

There appears to be a Marcella O'Sullivan ,Dublin 22 area Clondalkin buried on Glasnevin index age 79 in 2000  there is also a James O'Sullivan 1971 age 52. James also comes up when you enter Clondalkin into address box, they may be buried in Palmerstown Cemetery

According to his entry in the 1963 edition of 'Authors and Writers Who's Who' he was married to Marcella Howley which would fit a 1946 marriage in Dublin North. The entry (below) in "Ireland, Civil Registration Marriages Index, 1845-1958" on Ancestry does not specifically put them together but I would think its more than  a mere coincidence. The entry adds little apart from born Dublin 1919, having  3 sons and two daughters, the main bit being a list of his books.

James O'Sullivan
Date of Registration:    Jan-Feb-Mar, 1946
Registration district:    Dublin North, Ireland
Volume:    2
Page Number:    459
FHL Film Number:    101580
Records on Page:
Name
Martin Hanrahan
James O'Sullivan
Violet Mary Finnerty
Mary Power
Marcella Howley
Mary Ryan
Henry McGarry
Peter Hughes

The marriage does seem at odds from this brief bio i found on ABEBooks : "James Brendan O'Sullivan was born in Dublin in 1919. After several years in the U.S.A., where he worked as a crime reporter, disc jockey, copy writer, dramatist and scriptwriter, he returned to Dublin in the 1950's." But so far have found no evidence to prove he was in the US for some time.

Regards
John
