I think the absent husband might be a seaman, and what look like descenders are ascenders from the line below.
Researching among others:
Bartle, Bilton, Bingley, Campbell, Craven, Emmott, Harcourt, Hirst, Kellet(t), Kennedy,
Meaburn, Mennile/Meynell, Metcalf(e), Palliser, Robinson, Rutter, Shipley, Stow, Wilkinson

Hmm -- not an easy one.

For what it's worth I also think the husband's occupation appears to start with the letters 'Sea'.

The surnames look a bit like Robertson and Harrisley.

Have you searched for a marriage of a Margaret Robertson 10 years prior to this birth -- to a William Harris??? by any chance? Or searched a census?
Places of interest;
Lancashire, West Yorkshire, Southern Ireland, Scotland.

To what and who are you referring to?  Is this a census entry, or what?

More basic information might be helpful, together with not disappearing immediately after posing the query  :-X
Transcriptions and NBI are merely finding aids.  They are NOT a substitute for original record entries.

Agree with seaman rather than my previous reading of Sawyer - ascender from below muddled it.

I think it's a Scottish birch certificate, BB.

Added - do I see an 1860 date in right hand column?

Bumble B

I am so sorry -- I did not mean to disappear -- We had a gentleman knock unexpectedly that I have had to deal with.

So thats one moan sorted and as for the other bit.. I was rushing and yes I was about to let you all know the bits I knew..

When my unexpected visitor arrived.

FORGIVE me

What I know is that MR William Himsley / Himisley  has been out at sea for the last 10 yrs or so and Margaret Robertson has been reproducing by herself...

So Yes I knew it was a case of Illegitimacy and I knew he was a Seaman...
The name Himsley changes with every document he is found on..

What I wanted  to know where the other details which have been read.

And I am grateful for the time you have all spent..

You know me really appreciate the help we give and get on here.

I thought I had put the Naughty Stool away - but looks like I will have to get it out again!!!!

and yes its a Scottish B.c
