« on: Thursday 05 July 18 03:34 BST (UK) »
Folks,
This is one record of James i have found.
http://www.australianhistoryresearch.info/deaths-1811-a-c/
Private in 1st Battalion,73 rd Regiment,died 28 Nov 1811 in Sydney,Australia,aged 44.
He married Mary Ann Seaton/Russell on 11 Jun 1810 in Sydney.
I have zero experience tracing British Marines and am hoping sks can find James' origins.
Regards,
Eric

The 73rd Regiment of Foot were not Marines, they were one of the forerunners of the Black Watch.  In 1809 the 1st Battalion went to NSW and left in 1814.

The Muster books (pay rolls) for the regiment at the National Archives will show his presence in the regiment and would note his death in the appropriate volume. http://discovery.nationalarchives.gov.uk/browse/r/h/C150282
These though are not digitised.
As he died in service there will be no discharge papers for him and I find no record of him.
The history may be of interest.

We don't know when he joined but note what it says about recruiting in the 1806 to 1809 period.  The fact that it was on the face of it a Scottish regiment does not mean it recruited solely or even chiefly in Scotland - Irish and Scotch (sic) militias and Staffordshire militias and later other English militias all added to the mix!

I am Zoe Northeast, granddaughter of Maximilian Double.

It is with great difficulty I share with you that in the early hours of 07 August 2021, Maximilian passed away unexpectedly but peacefully.

With deep sadness,
Zoe

MaxD,
Thank you for your assistance.
James will be on hold for the time being as he is on the very edge of this tree.
