Thank you Keith. Do you think Arthur was expecting Mrs Woods to clean his shoes and she said if you don't clean your own shoes, they wont get cleaned.  ;D ;D ;D

 ;D ;D if he did it looks like Mrs Woods has thrown them in the dustbin!

Maybe he refused to wear his good shoes in the garden on the premise that, nobody would notice, besides which, they are comfy  :D

Arthur was a postman by trade so no doubt his feet had taken a pounding over the years so you may well be right that he needed a comfy pair of shoes - unfortunately they stick out like a sore thumb  :)
