Bennit Austen c1645-1716

Bennit married Henry Cavill on 21 Oct 1675 at St.Leonard's, Deal, Kent.
However, I find a Bennit Austen marrying a Thomas Amis in 1670 at St. Mary Bredin, Canterbury. The marriage record gives Bennet, daughter of Thomas Austen, yeoman of Eythorne aged 24. - I cannot find a death for Thomas Amis. On searching I can only find one Bennit (Bennett) being born around the right time (1645) to Thomas Austen of Eythorne, Kent. There does not appear to be any other Bennet that fits. Does anyone have any ideas?
I would be very happy to solve this problem - 1. are there 2 Bennets - 2. Did Thomas Amis die 3. Was the marriage dissolved for some reason ? Thank you, Desmond

I would be worth posting on the Kent boards for any further details of the Deal marriage.

I think AJ100 has some records.

The records confirm Bennet Austen marrying Henry Cavill at St Leonard's, Deal on 21/10/1675.
If this is your Bennet then stick with this marriage. Bennet was a popular name for girls around this time and Austin was by no means an uncommon surname.
If the Deal Bennet is yours, then the Canterbury marriage is a different Bennet.
There is no record in Deal of a baptism for Bennet Austen but this is not significant - she could have been baptised anywhere.
It all hinges on whether or not you believe the Deal Bennet to be yours.

There was a Bennett Austin baptised at St Augustines, Northbourne on 22 Aug 1630 - father Nicholas but he/she is older than you are looking for.

Thank you bearcat, AJ100 & rosie99. I am comfortable with Bennet marrying Henry Cavell and thanks to AJ, tracked down the original record from St.Leonard,s, Deal. Thank you all so much.

 Glad to be of help. Did you know Henry and Bennet had five children baptised at St Leonard's?

Due to your help in the past I have baptismal records for all 5 children. My line is through the second child Henry, born 1678. Thank you once again AJ.
