Grand Duché de Bade 1914
« on: Thursday 05 July 18 22:25 BST (UK) »
Hello, I would like find about my relative Violette Bail ° 1896 Middlebourg Netherland and dead in Basle in 1914 probably in July. I know Basle had a part in Switzerland and another in Duché de Bade. How to do to obtain a death certificate? It would be great if anybody have an idea.

Can I confirm that this is definitely the Swiss Basel and not eg Basel/Bazel in Belgium as it is so much closer to "Middelburg".

And, I'm adding your (very) old post to give some more background re this family (eg Violettes full name and DOB):

Hello,
Middlebourg in Netherland for the birth and Basel not at all sure in Switzerland, for the death. In fact, in 1914, Basel was in Switzerland for a part and in the Duché of Bade for an other. Today the Duché of Bade is in Germany since after the WWII. My question concern the death certificate in Basel.

Detailed info for research in Basel (Switzerland) is here:

Contact the Zivilstandestamt for certificates, though you might need to prove your request.

I'm sure your "Grand Duché de Bade" was really Großherzogtum Baden.

The Saarland was French for a time, but I don't think Baden-Württemberg was
(though a French army of occupation was stationed there after the 2nd World War).

Thank you, SwissGill.  Du meinst aber 'gegründet'.
I should have confined myself to Baden -- though in the maps I've seen Württemberg also appears to have remained part of the Deutscher Bund / Deutsches Reich.
I can't find any reference to Basel being in Baden since the Middle Ages: perhaps someone can enlighten me there.
