Does his record survive?
« on: Friday 06 July 18 16:55 BST (UK) »
Pte 12702 Victor George LORD, Ox & Bucks Light Infantry died 9 May 1917.  He is commemorated on the Doiran War Memorial, Greece.  He was born 1890 in Fenny Stratford.

Could some kind person let me know if his service record survives and, if so, does it give a date of enlistment,  d-o-b and next of kin?

NOTE - I am not looking for other details - this is part of an "every name remembered" project for our local War Memorial. to add data to the http://www.roll-of-honour.com/ website.

Many thanks
Philip

Hi

Sadly no trace of a WW1 record

Oh, boo and bother!  Many thanks for looking.
He was on the 1901 and 1911 censuses with grandparents, birth registered 1890 gives mmn BLISS but I can't see a parents' marriage.

Ah well, on to the next name!

Philip

Name number 2:

Sidney William BREWER born 1893 Fenny Stratford, parents William John and Kate BREWER.
pte 1807 East Kent Regiment, died 26 Aug 1916, buried Iraq.

Is there a record with his date of enlistment?
(or a MRI card to see if he was awarded the 1914 or 1914-15 Star)?

As always - many thanks.

Hi Philip,

The UK Army Registers of Soldiers' Effects on Ancestry gives the following detail:

Private Victor George Lord, 7th Batt, Ox & Bucks L I.

Death psmd (presumed) 9th May 1917. Died in Salonika. War Gratuity payments in 1919 show a father's name of Robert T Lord.

Medal Index card shows he was awarded the 1915 Star & British War & Victory medals.

Private Sidney William Brewer (transcribed as Susey Wm Brewer, but clearly Sidney William on the original!) 1/5 (1st/5th) Batt East Kent Regiment

Died 26th Aug 1916 in Mesopotamia. War Gratuity payments in 1917 & 1919 show a father's name of William John Brewer.

Medal Index Card (Which I eventually found after a certain amount of trawling!) for Brewer S W shows he was awarded the 1915 Star (as a Lance Corporal) & British War & Victory medals (as a Private). Would suggest a loss of rank somewhere along the line.

Hope this all helps.

Kind regards

David
