I have found details for two 'mystery names' and CaroleW and DavidJP have found details for two more.  Huge thanks to you both.

The last name on my list is H MORRIS.  There are several on the CWGC, many of which can be discounted as they have family outside my area.

I am hoping that Private 21237 MORRIS H, 6th Battalion Ox & Bucks Light Infantry might be my man.  He died on 30 Aug 1916 and is buried at Heilly Station Cemetery (in the area of the Somme).

Please could I push my luck (and your kindness) a little further and ask if there is a Service Record, Effects Register and/or M-I-C to answer:
1) When was he born?
Who were his parents/next of kin?
3) When did he join up?

Philip

Harry Morris but shown as Lance Corporal father was John.  All other details match but no place or date of birth given on soldiers effects site

His MRI card does not show a theatre of war and medals were just the British & Victory

Hi Philip,

Harry Morris but shown as Lance Corporal father was John.  All other details match but no place or date of birth given on soldiers effects site

His MRI card does not show a theatre of war and medals were just the British & Victory

His medal card shows that he was a Private (it is poorly written & slightly unclear), it might therefore mean that he was perhaps only an acting Lance Corporal rather than a Full Lance Corporal, but difficult to know for sure as his service record does not survive.

Hope this helps anyway.

Kind regards

David

That is brilliant!
Harry Morris with father John gives me enough information to check local censuses to see if I can find a match.

Once again - huge thanks to you and CaroleW.

And finally (honestly - this time I mean it!)

Lance Corporal G/2287 Percy BARDEN, Queen's Own Royal West Kent Regiment.
I am hoping he is Samuel Ethelred Perry BARDEN born Sep qtr 1888 Bow Brickhill, mother Julia, stepfather William WEST.

Any info on age, parentage etc?

Sorry Philip wrong parents.

Service Records on Ancestry check out with the regiment and service number you gave but his parents are James and Ann and a brother Thomas. He was born in Swanscombe, Kent.

Do you need any further info from his records?

Many thanks for checking.  With parents who don't match and a county that doesn't match, this isn't my man.

The search goes on!
