Forrest family at Auchloy Farm
« on: Friday 06 July 18 20:14 BST (UK) »
Hi!

I was hoping someone can help me. Theres a family i am researching and alot of them seemed to have lived at "Auchloy Farm".

What is it used for now? Does anyone even live there anymore? I thought the family would have carried it on but i can't seem to find any information about the place at all!

thank you :)

The first thing to clarify is which parish are all these records in? Because it's quite possible that there is more than one 'Auchloy'.

From one of lauren's previous threads I found the following supplied by Rosie:

This could be a possible census record in 1901 in Fowlis Wester Perthshire ( Auchloy Farm )
Alexander Forrest age 60 born Wiston Lanarkshire farmer
Agnes Forrest age 56 born Cornwarth Lanarkshire

(plus more children)

It is situated 3 miles North East of Crieff and 1 mile West of Fowlis Wester. You can see it on Google Earth, (not named) but it does not look like it is derelict.

Lauren's thread here:
https://www.talkingscot.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=18616

Gives further information and a couple of maps.

I like this one:

Sadly no "streetview" to have a closer look but I agree with Malky - it looks like it is in good order.

Its NOT!? Does that mean it's still in use?! :O by who though? I really want to find out!

Thank you for letting me know!

It's not listed in the Post Code directory or Post Code Finder, which suggests that even though the roof looks intact on the satellite image, no-one is actually living there. Also there are no cars or other vehicles there in the Bing, Zoom Earth or ESRI satellite views.

According to the Ordnance Survey Name Book, the proprietor in the 1850s was Mr Drummond of Abercairney.

I suggest that you contact the Abercairny Estate Office and ask them about A(u)chloy. See http://www.abercairny.com/
