Were death certs issued for WW1 soldiers??
« on: Friday 06 July 18 21:36 BST (UK) »
My relative was killed in 1915 in France, he was with the Royal Munster Fusiliers, does anyone know if the military issued a death cert for this event, if so where do I get a copy?

The amount of information, though, is less than on a normal certificate. Usually the Cause of Death is just Killed or Missing in action and the place of death is France; Belgium;Italy etc.

Thanks, was not sure for Irish regiments.

Ireland was not a separate country then;  all part of the U.K.

If you're trying to ascertain how/where he died you can refer to the Battalion war diary which are on Ancestry & also TNA.

Did you look at his Battalion war diary or the divisional diary?
His Battalion diary would have more detail.
