Surname Help
« on: Sunday 08 July 18 20:37 BST (UK) »
Good evening all,

I am currently researching my Great Grandad. He moved from Glasgow to Kent and died there in 1963. On his death certificate, the informant is his step-daughter and as I haven't found any record of the marriage to his second wife (I don't know her maiden name), I am keen to investigate her further. The only problem is, the surname is confusing me.

Can any of you help? I wondered if any of you might have come across the name before. Her address is in Faversham. An image of the signature should be attached (fingers crossed).

Many thanks,

Jen

It is a tricky initial to decipher  :)

Of course she could be married and this is her husband's surname.

There is a Mary Louise Chitticks on the 1939 register, schoolgirl, born 1928 . In the household of Robert and Elizabeth Screene at Maldon and Coombe, Surrey. A bit of a funny one because Mary Louise Screene married a Ralph Chitticks in 1947. She died in Canterbury Kent in 1999.

An Elizabeth E Long had married a Robert J Screene in Kingston Surrey in 1924. They were the parents of the Mary L Screene that Crisane found (I think.)

Robert J Screene died in 1940 in Surrey.

A William Clark married an Elizabeth E Screene in 1949 in Surrey. I wonder if this is the OPs grandfather's second marriage?
Best wishes, Judy :-))

Wow you are good! Lol The address lead me to the name of the person currently living there. When you suggested Chittick, I did a random google and found a Ralph Chittick living at the address with the other I found. Small world?! I’ve seen the Screene marriage before but without knowing her maiden name I wasn’t sure. Also, my great grandmother died in 1949 in an asylum so I wasn’t 100% about how everything worked. The names seem to connect though. Thank you!
