Sydney Simpson Barnes

Just found out that my grandmother had a first cousin Sydney Simpson Barnes buried in Portsmouth Naval memorial Nov 14 1914. He was an Able Seaman, Royal Navy.

He is commemorated (rather than buried) on the Portsmouth Naval Memorial.  Died on 26 November 1914 in an internal explosion on HMS Bulwark off Sheerness, Details:

His RN record is on Ancestry.

he joined as a boy on 24 Jan 1913 for a 12 year engagement which started when he was 18 on 8 October 1913.  He served briefly on HMS Prince of Wales , joining Bulwark on 4 Oct 1913.

Sadly his body was not recovered for burial.
