Complicated marriage entry....
« on: Monday 09 July 18 17:29 BST (UK) »
Ada E Dingvean married Albert C Weller in 1928, there were 3 children F 1929, M 1931, F 1937 [all have MMN Dingvean.
Then:

Marriages Sep 1950
Dingvean    Ada E    Donohue    Marylebone    5d   859
DONOHUE    Ada E    DONOHUE    Marylebone    5d   859
#COMMENT Entry has DINGVEAN or DONOHUE or WELLER for Spouse
DONOHUE    John J    DINGVEAN    Marylebone    5d   859
DONOHUE    John J    DONOHUE    Marylebone    5d   859
DONOHUE    John J    WELLER    Marylebone    5d   859
Weller    Ada E    Donohue    Marylebone    5d

1939 register has household of Charles A Weller b 1906 with Ada E Weller [later Donohue] b 1907 in Barrow Hill Rd Bridgeman St, Marylebone with only 1 closed record. I found in a relative's possessions a wedding invitation from Mr & Mrs J Donohue to the 1937 daughter's marriage [ADDED LATER: marriage was in 1957]. I can find no suitable death for Albert C or Charles A Weller 1937 - 1950 - have looked on freebmd & CWGC. Can I presume that Ada lived under the name Donohue sometime after 1937 up till 1950? Only electoral rolls I can find are post 1955.

Simple answer - buy the certificate!  :-\ :-\ :-X
Transcriptions and NBI are merely finding aids.  They are NOT a substitute for original record entries.
Remember - "They'll be found when they want to be found" !!!
If you don't ask the question, you won't get an answer.

Sounds like they divorced sometime up to 1950. If he had died she would have married as Weller.
As BumbleB says you need the cert. It may say Donahue formally Weller nee Dingvean but you won't know until you get it.

Just means she has three surnames on the entry - so "x otherwise Y formerly z" or something similar. The exact order, and why they are all shown, will only be apparent from a certificate.

OK thanks everyone, will do in due course.

I did find this death [dob as 1939 register 14 Sep 1906]
Name:   Charles Albert Weller
Death Age:   75
Birth Date:   15 Sep 1906
Registration Date:   Mar 1982
Registration district:   Lambeth
Volume:   14
Page:   0176

so it looks as though Ada divorced Charles Weller.

I notice on the 1945 ER's there's an Ada E Weller living Tower Hamlets & in the next road is a Henry Dingvean. co-incidence?
Aha... 1947 ER same house now with John Donahue.
