Watson family
« on: Monday 09 July 18 17:54 BST (UK) »
Hello
I'm trying to find the marriage of John Watson (b 1824 Tupton Derbyshire) to Sarah? (b1825 Fenay Bridge Yorkshire)
1851 Census shows them living in Alverthorpe with their 10 month old son George
Help would be much appreciated
Thanks

This could be George's birth giving his mother's maiden name. From the GRO site

WATSON, GEORGE  mmn    BATTY
1850  J Quarter
WAKEFIELD UNION

It looks like the find by Groom may be correct.

The actual filmed record is on Ancestry at Manchester Cathedral (free access at the moment).

His address was Ruby St Hulme - and hers was Halifax.
Groom's father was a George Watson.
Bride's father was James Batty.

Marriage took place on 8 Aug 1848. Married by Licence. Only one witness - I can't decipher the christian name but surname is Watson. I suspect it is a female as it is written on the bottom witness line -- but have a look.

Lancashire, West Yorkshire, Southern Ireland, Scotland.

If I have found the correct family in 1861 they are in Bridlington - with loads more children born! Some in York, some in Bridlington.

You could search the GRO Birth Index for some of them to see if the mother's maiden name coincides with Batty.
